Steph's Day

I am not even going to post what I ate today it was so horrible, although I did also squeeze in some smoothie, and vegetables at dinner. The rest, it's unspeakable... Meal planning tomorrow yay! Also think I'll try out the cooler method from Charity.

Amanda: Upon researching the internet, I can only find speculative studies on milk and blocking absorption, so I don't know what the new science on this is. I DID find some interesting articles on calcium absorption and the reduction of magnesium in the body, which suggested that by increasing magnesium you increase your calcium use efficiency. ALSO, the government just changed their recommendations on dairy consumption, lowering the amount needed because the studies on increased dairy preventing osteoporosis proved the theory incorrect!!!!

It is not actually calcium deficiency that causes osteoporosis (or rather let's say that developed countries really don't have a calcium deficiency issue) it is more how the calcium is absorbed and what else is being eaten with the calcium (such as vitamin d and magnesium). Also, you don't need milk to get calcium.

While on the subject of milk...... THINK ABOUT IT

We know that human breastmilk changes over time and with the needs of the individual baby. Hot out? runnier milk. Cold out? thicker milk. Bigger baby? milk fat percentage changes.
Older baby? different milk.

Obviously milk is composed for specific offspring and for specific circumstances (and let's not even get into the difference between animal milk and human milk - if we aren't breastfeeding older people with human milk, why would we do it with cow breastmilk?).

Okay, so NOW think about how cows are milked......: Cow milk is for a huge honking animal, and for a COW, not a human. And now, we throw in the fact that we are drinking cow milk that is consistent rather than circumstantial and from other areas of the world/country, so runnier/thicker depending on the season or the lifestyle no longer gets accounted for.

And THEN, think about how much and how long these cows are being milked for...... what do you think the cows' bodies are telling them? Um..... you are milking a really really really old and therefore really really really big cow that is very very very hungry, please make your milk accordingly. I don't know about you but I'm pretty sure that I am much smaller then an average cow and also a lot younger (relatively). So why am I drinking breastmilk meant for an old, large COW?

And then of course we don't put chemicals/pesticides etc. into our human breastmilk so there is another difference too. I'm really getting more and more convinced that I just don't need milk at all. What are we really getting out of milk? Do other cultures drink as much as we do I wonder?

Protein, Calcium, Fat, Vitamin D (fortified)..... everything in cow's milk we can get from somewhere else. Once again, if we don't breastfeed adults then do we need breastmilk from a cow?

Okay and also thought about this earlier on: the word of wisdom doesn't really touch on dairy does it.... (correct if I'm wrong here please!). I just thought that was interesting. My thinking on this would be that therefore dairy is not really a staple in a healthy diet.

Have you had Almond Milk?

I just may do a bit of research on this as well! There are a lot of people out there who do not drink cow's milk and are very healthy. Definitely other ways to get calcium.

Thanks for sharing
